ACTION: Racial Justice and Equity, February 2025

February 2025 - Issue 8

Welcome to the latest issue of ACTION, BSU’s newsletter focused on racial justice and equity.

In this issue we feature stories about the efforts to further diversify our faculty; the ways in which open educational resources, or OER, materials can make things more equitable for students; the newly revised and expanded edition of The Racial Equity and Justice Institute Practitioner Handbook, Volume 2; and a faculty group that gets together each month to discuss relevant issues having to do with race. Also, the university celebrated MLK Day by holding a day of service, and we’ve included some photos from the holiday’s various events.

Co-Publisher’s Message

While the term might conjure up a negative or unsettling image of being under care or surveillance, in a broader sense, to “institutionalize” something means to normalize it — to make it a permanent or respected part of an organization. It becomes woven into an organization’s culture.
